Day 1: Exploring Historical Zhengzhou

Reiseroute: Henan Museum → Zhengzhou Confucian Temple → City God Temple → Erqi Square

First Stop: Henan Museum Start your Zhengzhou adventure at the Henan Museum, one of the only two institutions in China that can be referred to as a “博物院” alongside the Forbidden City, indicating its significance. The museum boasts a rich collection of artifacts, including the treasured Du Ling Square Ding, the Owl-shaped Bronze Zun, the Cloud-patterned Bronze Banned, and the Jade-hilt Iron Sword. The permanent exhibitions follow a chronological order, showcasing the ancient civilization of Henan and related artifacts. Additionally, there are often special exhibitions worth exploring.

Second Stop: Zhengzhou Confucian Temple After a morning immersed in history, enjoy a local lunch before heading to the Zhengzhou Confucian Temple. This ancient temple is dedicated to Confucius, the great Chinese philosopher, politician, and educator. Once the largest and oldest temple complex in Zhengzhou, it has faced destruction and reconstruction multiple times. Today, the temple’s main structures are the Grand Hall of Confucius and the Archway, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

Third Stop: City God Temple A short walk away from the Confucian Temple is the City God Temple, one of the largest and best-preserved Ming and Qing architecture complexes in China. Despite numerous restorations, it retains much of its historical authenticity. The temple is especially lively on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month, bustling with visitors and worshippers.

Fourth Stop: Erqi Square Conclude your day at Erqi Square, accessible by bicycle or public transport. After a brief rest and dinner, witness the square’s enchanting evening transformation. Located in the city center, Erqi Square is surrounded by shopping centers and dining establishments. The iconic Erqi Memorial Tower stands here, built to commemorate the February 7, 1923, railway workers’ strike. Enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and explore the area’s numerous attractions.

Day 2: Cultural and Modern Highlights

Reiseroute: Zhengzhou Yellow River Cultural Park → Millennium Plaza → Big Corn 58th Floor Urban Observation Hall

First Stop: Yellow River Scenic Area On your second day, head to the Yellow River Scenic Area, marking the starting point of the “suspended river” and the boundary between the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River. The park features the impressive statues of the Yan and Huang Emperors, the Yellow River National Geological Museum, and various sculptures symbolizing deep cultural significance. You can also enjoy the Yellow River’s grandeur up close and experience its cultural heritage. Activities include a cableway over the river, amphibious hovercraft rides, and the exciting Wonder Slide.

Second Stop: Millennium Plaza Next, visit Millennium Plaza, home to the Big Corn (also known as the Henan Television Tower), a new landmark in the Zhengdong New District CBD. Inspired by the Songyue Pagoda, the tower’s golden lights make it resemble a ripe corn cob at night, offering a charming sight. The 58th floor houses the highest observation deck in Henan, providing a 360-degree view of the city through its panoramic windows. Zhengzhou’s commitment to enhancing its urban nightscape promises an even more spectacular view as the city continues its beautification efforts.

Here, you can explore the temple’s historic halls and courtyards, watch captivating martial arts performances, and immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of this legendary site.
