Nidang Stone Forest - Eintrittskarten, Öffnungszeiten, Lage und Highlights
Nidang Stone Forest (泥凼石林), located in Xingyi City, Guizhou Province, is a vital component of China’s Xingyi National Geological Park. Stretching from Daojiayan in Shishan Village to Yangjiawan in Powei Village, it spans approximately four kilometers from west to east and two kilometers from north to south.
Records indicate that over 270 million years ago, this area was once submerged under a vast ocean. Over time, the seabed gradually accumulated limestone deposits. As a result of tectonic movements and compression, portions of the seabed rose, subjected to millions of years of erosion by rainwater and weathering. Layers containing sediment gradually eroded away, leaving behind formations devoid of sediment. Around two million years ago, this process gave rise to the spectacular array of stone peaks, columns, stalactites, and rock formations visible today, resembling a dense forest of stones, hence earning the name “Stone Forest”.
Entering the scenic area, visitors are greeted by towering stone peaks resembling sharp swords pointing towards the blue sky. Upon closer inspection, the landscape reveals a myriad of breathtaking sights, with stalactites and stone columns rising from the ground, resembling exotic birds and beasts, while some bear a striking resemblance to human figures, each exhibiting a unique and lifelike appearance. They seem to silently convey to visitors the ancient and mysterious tales and forces that shaped them.
Nidang Stone Forest is not merely a geological marvel but also a testament to the profound forces of nature and the passage of time. Its otherworldly beauty and enigmatic formations offer visitors a glimpse into the awe-inspiring processes that have shaped our planet over millions of years.
