Lu Xun Memorial Hall, Shaoxing – Ticket, Opening Hours, Location, and Highlights

The Lu Xun Memorial Hall in Shaoxing (绍兴鲁迅纪念馆), established in 1973, spans an impressive area of 6000 square meters. It stands as one of the earliest commemorative museums dedicated to a historical figure in Zhejiang Province since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The primary mission of the Lu Xun Memorial Hall is to promote education about Lu Xun’s life, collect and preserve relics and materials related to Lu Xun, and conduct scientific research on his works and thoughts.

The main entrance of the Lu Xun Memorial Hall features a traditional Shaoxing bamboo gate, harmonizing with the architectural style of the surrounding traditional streets and lanes. The outdoor spaces of the memorial hall, including the plaza and various entrances, are paved with traditional Shaoxing bluestone, creating an atmosphere that is both rustic and dignified. Inside the memorial hall, visitors encounter several sections, including reception halls, main exhibition halls, auxiliary exhibition halls, and a library of notable figures.

The main exhibition halls consist of two floors, divided into north and south sections, interconnected with a reception hall. The second floor of the south exhibition hall is designed as a courtyard-style gallery, showcasing the life story of Lu Xun, including his experiences in Nanjing, Japan, Shaoxing, Beijing, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and other places. The auxiliary exhibition hall is located separately on the west side of the main exhibition hall, facing it across the water.

Within the Lu Xun Memorial Hall, visitors encounter a plethora of artifacts, including manuscripts, photographs, letters, charts, and models, reflecting the influence of Shaoxing’s local culture on Lu Xun and the impact of early family tragedies on his life. The exhibition also highlights Lu Xun’s steadfast determination during his time in Shanghai, vividly portraying his illustrious achievements and intellectual development. Additionally, the memorial hall meticulously recreates the atmosphere of Lu Xun’s era, featuring courtyard gardens adorned with bamboo, rocks, and flowers, as well as the historical streets surrounding Lu Xun’s former residence, providing visitors with authentic experiences to interpret Lu Xun’s works, savor the landscapes depicted in his writings, and immerse themselves in the ambiance of Lu Xun’s life.
