Ningbo Museum of Art – Ticket, Opening Hours, Location, and Highlihgts
The Ningbo Museum of Art (宁波美术馆), designed by the first Chinese winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, Mr. Wang Shu, officially opened on October 11, 2005. Its architectural style combines elements of Greek classical architecture with modern minimalism. The exterior features traditional materials such as Ningbo’s blue bricks used in local residences and steel-wood materials found in port vessels, showcasing traditional building methods of Ningbo through brick craftsmanship. The wooden walls and steel columns of the facade are simple in color and extraordinary in scale, providing a striking visual impact. Its silhouette on the banks of the Yongjiang River resembles an “art ark” anchored in the port city. Additionally, the clever use of light adds a sense of history and regional cultural significance to the museum.
The Ningbo Museum of Art consists of the main building, upper platform plaza, cafe, underground garage, and pier, covering an area of 15,800 square meters with a construction area of over 23,100 square meters. It houses exhibition halls totaling over 5,300 square meters and an art collection storage area of over 1,500 square meters, capable of hosting different types and themes of exhibitions simultaneously or separately. The exhibition halls are equipped with advanced facilities and services including central air conditioning, constant temperature and humidity systems, central monitoring systems, fire alarm systems, gas fire extinguishing systems, automatic sprinkler systems, indoor fire hydrants, 24-hour alarm systems, and security patrol systems. Moreover, the museum features advanced supporting facilities such as exhibition halls, art storage rooms, VIP lounges, academic lecture halls, artist studios, art salons, art education centers, galleries, and art supply stores, making it a modern and high-quality art museum that integrates functions such as exhibition display, collection protection, academic research, art exchange, art education, and cultural leisure.
