The Xinzheng Museum (新郑博物馆) stands as the largest county-level museum in Henan Province, boasting a collection unparalleled in its breadth and depth. With over 60,000 artifacts in its possession, including more than 4,400 pieces categorized as third-grade or above, this museum offers a rich tapestry of history spanning various epochs and cultural nuances. Divided into 17 categories such as bronze ware, pottery, porcelain, stone carvings, and bricks, its exhibits paint a vivid picture of the region’s cultural evolution.
Among its prized possessions are artifacts from the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, including bronze ritual and musical instruments, weaponry, and daily life implements. Noteworthy are the artifacts from the Peiligang culture period, featuring pottery, stone tools, and even animal fossils, including a mammoth ivory fossil dating back 500,000 years, measuring an impressive 3.55 meters, making it the longest such fossil in China.

The Xinzheng Museum is located on the western side of the Yellow Emperor’s hometown in the Xinzheng urban area, approximately 300 meters away. Its precise address is 228 West Section of Xinyuan Road, Xinzheng City, Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China. To get there, you can take bus Xinzheng 1 or Xinzheng D3 and get off at Xinzheng Museum Stop (新郑博物馆站).

Architectural Style
Architecturally, the museum’s main building exudes grandeur and elegance. Oriented north to south, the two-story structure embodies the traditional sloped roof style, spanning 43.2 meters in length, 16 meters in width, and 16 meters in height. Constructed primarily of reinforced concrete, its roof is adorned with glazed tiles, exuding a resplendent golden hue, evoking a sense of magnificence. At the forefront stands a majestic ancient-style gate with lofty eaves, flanked by two towering stone lions each standing at 2 meters tall. The courtyard, meticulously landscaped, offers a serene environment with lush greenery and fragrant flowers adorning its pathways.
Various Exhibitions
Upon entering the main building, visitors are greeted with the Zheng-Han Cultural Relics Exhibition on the first floor. Here, artifacts excavated from the ancestral lands of Zheng and Han are showcased, including pottery and ironware, bronze ritual instruments, architectural materials such as Han palace door hinges and roof tiles, alongside weaponry from the Warring States Period. Ascending to the second floor, visitors embark on a journey into the roots of Chinese civilization with the “Exploring the Ruins of Youxiongshi” exhibition. Exhibits here feature artifacts from the Peiligang culture period 8,000 years ago, including stone grinding discs and pestles, as well as red pottery pots with double ear handles. Additionally, artifacts from the Yangshao culture period 5,000 years ago and the Longshan culture period 3,000 years ago, including pottery and stone tools, offer insights into the ancient origins of Chinese civilization.
