Tianbo Yang House, Kaifeng - Billets, heures d'ouverture, emplacement et points forts
Tianbo Yang House (天波杨府), originally the residence of the Northern Song Dynasty hero Yang Ye, was situated in the northwest corner of the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty, Bianjing (present-day Kaifeng City, Henan Province), next to the Jinshui River near Tianbo Gate, hence its name “Tianbo Yang House.” Reconstructed in 1994, the new location is nestled in the northwest corner of Kaifeng City, along the northern shore of Yang Family West Lake, adjacent to the site of the Northern Song Imperial Palace, and facing the Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden and the Han Garden Stele Forest. Covering an area of approximately 60,000 square meters, including 4,000 square meters of water area and 26,000 square meters of green space, with ancient-style or reconstructed buildings occupying 13,253 square meters, it stands as a large-scale replica of Song Dynasty architecture. Designed to the standards of a military official of the first rank at that time, it mirrors Yang Ye’s rank as conferred the title of Grand Preceptor and the military governor of Datong.

Stories of the Yang Family
The story of the Yang family begins with the remarkable military achievements of Yang Ye, who served as the military governor of the Jianxiong Army in Northern Han and later became a renowned general in the Northern Song Dynasty, earning the title of “invincible” among his countrymen. Known for his bravery, Yang Ye led his troops to numerous victories on the battlefield. However, during one fateful battle, he fell into a Liao ambush and, facing overwhelming odds, chose not to surrender, ultimately sacrificing himself after three days and nights of fasting.
Following Yang Ye’s death, his sons carried on his legacy, continuing to defend the borders and resist enemy forces. Among them, the most famous was Yang Yanzhao, often referred to as “Yang Liu Lang” (“Sixth Son of Yang”). He accompanied his father on military campaigns from a young age, displaying bravery and skill in combat. Yang Yanzhao later served for over 20 years guarding the northern border in Hebei, where he achieved numerous victories against the Liao forces, earning widespread acclaim for his military exploits. Another notable figure was Yang Wenguang, Yang Yanzhao’s son, who distinguished himself as a formidable military leader in battles against the Western Xia dynasty on the northwestern frontier, earning countless military honors. The Yang family’s saga is one of valor, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to defending the homeland against external threats, leaving an indelible mark on Chinese history and inspiring generations to come.
