Established in 1975, Xiangyang Museum (襄阳博物馆) in Province de Hubei relocated to its current site on December 28, 2008, and began offering free admission to the public. Spanning an area of 4,202 square meters, with exhibition halls covering 3,200 square meters, the museum houses a collection of 35,448 items, including 5,235 precious artifacts. On display are over 800 artifacts from various historical periods, primarily focusing on the exhibition “Ancient History and Culture of Xiangyang.” This exhibition is divided into five units: Prehistoric Period, Pre-Qin Period, Qin and Han Period, Three Kingdoms, Two Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties Period, and Sui, Tang, Ming, and Qing Dynasties Period. Through these exhibits, the museum provides a comprehensive overview of the development of Xiangyang’s history and culture, showcasing its significance throughout different eras.

Xiangyang Museum is located at No. 1 Beijie Street, Xiangcheng District, Xiangyang City, Hubei Province. To get there, you can take bus 1, 6, 8, 13, 14, 21, 24, 28, 29, 307, 512, 517, 536, or 537 and get off at Shizijie Stop (十字街站).

Exhibitions in Xiangyang Museum

First Exhibition Hall: Prehistoric Xiangyang (200,000 years ago – 21st century BC)

This section showcases over 80 precious artifacts. Exhibits include maps displaying the geographical environment of the Diaolongbei site, distribution plans of relics, statistics on major findings, cultural characteristics of various periods, and showcased items.

Second Exhibition Hall: Xiangyang in the Pre-Qin Period (21st century BC – 221 BC)

With over 500 artifacts, this unit provides valuable historical evidence for studying Xiangyang’s history, Chu culture, and Central Plains culture, highlighting its strategic importance in military history.

Third Exhibition Hall: Xiangyang in the Qin and Han Period (221 BC – AD 220)

Featuring nearly 100 artifacts, this section includes treasures like Western Han Dynasty painted pottery with bird and cloud motifs excavated from the Leigutai site, providing insights into the architectural style of the Han Dynasty.

Fourth Exhibition Hall: Xiangyang in the Three Kingdoms, Jin, and Northern and Southern Dynasties Period (AD 220 – 581)

Displaying 50 precious artifacts, this unit showcases exquisite ceramics such as celadon pottery, green-glazed red pottery towers, and figurines depicting various scenes from the period.

Fifth Exhibition Hall: Xiangyang in the Sui, Tang, Ming, and Qing Dynasties Period (AD 581 – 1911)

Featuring over 100 artifacts, this section focuses on bronze sculptures, tomb steles, rubbings, and official seals, with over 100 bronze statues being the highlight.
