Villa van Jiang en Song, Luoyang - Kaartje, openingstijden, locatie en hoogtepunten
Jiang and Song’s Villa, also known as the Jiang-Song Villa (蒋宋别墅), is the former residence of Chiang Kai-shek and his wife Soong Mei-ling. In 1936, amidst the turbulent times of pre-war China, the city of Luoyang served as a crucial military and political hub. With a strategic emphasis on domestic stability as a prerequisite for external defense, Chiang Kai-shek, under the pretext of celebrating his birthday, personally supervised military affairs in Luoyang. To win the favor of Chiang Kai-shek and his wife Soong Mei-ling, Zhu Shaozhou collaborated with the provincial government of Henan to construct this architecture blending Chinese and Western elements amidst the picturesque Longmen Xiangshan Hill, known as the “Jiang and Song’s Villa.”
Covering an area of over 650 square meters, the villa boasts more than 20 rooms with a total construction area of 816 square meters. Upon entering through the main gate facing the grottoes of the western hills, visitors are greeted by a corridor approximately 2 meters wide and 10 meters long, paved with teakwood flooring. The simplicity and elegance of white walls and wooden floors exude a solemn atmosphere.
To the right of the corridor is the conference room, where a rectangular conference table draped with military-green cloth sits, with a portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-sen displayed prominently at the center. Facing the conference room is a spacious reception room, adorned with teakwood floors, luxurious sofas, and a thick carpet in the center. Another portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-sen is displayed prominently in the reception room, with a plaque bearing the inscription “天下为公 (For the Public Good)” on the side.
Ascending the staircase along the left side of the corridor reveals the living quarters where Chiang Kai-shek and his wife spent their daily lives. Successive rooms include the office, the washroom, and the bedroom. Beyond the bedroom lies the guard room, with a spacious corridor outside. Directly in front of this corridor lies the western hills of the Longmen Grottoes. When the villa was built, this area was open, offering an unobstructed view of the entire western hills. This area served as the main location for Chiang Kai-shek’s morning walks after waking up each day.
