Located in the northwest of Song County, Henan Province, Tianchi Mountain (天池山) is a captivating tourist destination nestled on the northern side of the Funiu Mountain World Geopark, spanning an area of over 40,000 acres. This scenic spot boasts an incredibly diverse natural landscape, characterized by rolling hills, deep valleys, lush forests, and abundant greenery. With over 184 species of wildlife and more than 1800 types of plants thriving within the area, Tianchi Mountain boasts a forest coverage rate as high as 98.57%. The annual average precipitation stands at 812 millimeters, with the highest temperature reaching 28 degrees Celsius. Its main peak, Wangmangzhai, towers at an impressive altitude of 1859.6 meters.

Located in the northwest of Song County, Luoyang, Henan Province, Tianchi Mountain is conveniently situated just 98 kilometers north of downtown Luoyang. Traveling to Tianchi Mountain is relatively straightforward. There is a direct bus from Luoyang to Tianchi Mountain departing at around 7:30 in the morning, with a ticket price of approximately 25 yuan. Alternatively, travelers can take a bus from Luoyang to Song County, which takes about an hour and a half, and then transfer to another bus from Song County to Tianchi Mountain, which takes about an hour.

Among these, Tianchi Lake stands out, situated at an altitude of 1630 meters with an area of 11,000 square meters and an average depth of 5 meters. Surrounded by dense forests of water spruces and Japanese larches, the air here is rich in active oxygen and negative ions, offering various health benefits such as invigorating the body, uplifting the spirit, beautifying the skin, and refreshing the mind.


Flying Stone

Moreover, Tianchi Mountain is home to the renowned “Feilaishi” (Flying Stone), dubbed the “Number One Stone in the World.” This colossal stone, standing at 22 meters tall with a circumference of 80 meters, occupies less than 10 square meters of ground contact area. Perched atop a perilous peak at an altitude of over 1500 meters, the stone appears precariously balanced, boasting diverse and captivating shapes, truly earning its reputation as one of the world’s extraordinary natural wonders. Beneath the Flying Stone lies a vast exposed rock, approximately a hundred meters in length, resembling a reclining giant, evoking awe and reverence among visitors.

Sites such as the Great and Small Camps, where Wang Mang battled Liu Xiu, Tang Dynasty Buddhist temples, and the tomb of the Han Dynasty King are testaments to its historical significance.
