Langde Miao Ethnic Minority Village – Ticket, Opening Hours, Location, and Highlights

Langde Miao Ethnic Minority Village (朗德苗寨) is a captivating settlement, home to a hundred households of the Miao ethnic minority. Nestled in the pristine landscapes of southeast Guizhou Province, it boasts unparalleled ethnic tourism resources. The village is divided into upper and lower natural sections, with the accessible area being referred to as “Langde Upper Village.” Renowned for its titles such as “Home of Chinese Folk Song and Dance Art,” “One of the Nation’s Hundred Open-air Museums,” and “Land of Reed-pipe Wind Instruments,” Langde Miao Village is a cultural gem. Its ancient architectural complex has earned recognition as the fifth batch of key cultural relics under national protection in China.

The distinctiveness of Langde Miao Village lies in its traditional attire, characterized by long skirts, earning it the moniker “Long Skirt Miao.” Set against the backdrop of mountains and rivers, the village, in comparison to the more famous Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, exudes a tranquil ambiance. Visitors can savor the Miao ethnic performances such as toasting songs, Miao flying songs, and lusheng dances.

Highlights of Langde Miao Village

Natural Beauty

Langde Upper Village, perched along the hills and facing south, is surrounded by mountains on all sides. The landscape is enhanced by dense forests and bamboo groves, accentuating the charm of the Qing Dynasty-era stilted buildings. Serpentine mountain trails wind through lush greenery, and the melodious Miao songs echo through the wilderness. A meandering river in front of the village resembles a resting dragon, while to the south stands the lush “Guarding the Village Mountain,” and to the north lies the Yang Daliu Bridge, also known as the “Wind and Rain Bridge,” spanning the riverbank. Crossing the bridge leads to the ascent of the “Cattle-raising Slope,” offering views of the fortresses and trenches built by Yang Daliu during his anti-Qing rebellion.

Ethnic Architecture

The village is adorned with a multitude of stilted buildings, each housing a “beautiful woman’s resting place” for guests. These spots double as embroidery areas for the village’s girls, showcasing the unique style of Langde Miao. The village pathways are meticulously paved with cobblestones, creating a neat and orderly atmosphere. At the center of the village lies a grand lusheng (reed-pipe wind instrument) square, its ground adorned with cobblestones depicting the sun’s rays and galloping horses, resembling ancient bronze drum surfaces. To the south, there is the “Yang Daliu Cultural Museum,” exhibiting weapons such as knives, forks, helmets, and iron cannons used during Yang Daliu’s leadership in the anti-Qing uprising.
