Welcome to Xi’an, a city famous for being the capital of thirteen Chinese dynasties, including the Tang Dynasty (618-907), when China was the country’s most powerful empire. Xi’an, formerly known as Chang’an, was the largest cosmopolitan city in the world at the time.
Terracotta Warriors (more):There is a treasure trove of more than 7,000 statues of soldiers and horses, each more than 2,000 years old and outstanding sentinels of history. You can visit a replica factory to gain insight into the intricate process of making these ancient marvels. Then take a stroll and wander among the huge life-size statues of soldiers and horses, the great men’s warhorses, and the countless bronze male chariots and weapons, all dedicated to the head emperors of China. These artefacts not only bear witness to the rise of a mighty empire, but also testify to a vision of national unity. As you view these amazing artefacts, you will gain a deeper understanding of Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s grand vision for the afterlife and his ambitious plans to unify China.
Huaqing Palace (more):Once a quiet hot spring on the outskirts of the countryside for the emperors of the Tang Dynasty (618 AD to 907 AD), this place still wears its enchanting old-world charm today. The warm hot spring water against the lush green hills and trees will transport you back in time to the legendary story of Yang Guifei, the favourite concubine of the illustrious Tang emperor Emperor Tang Xuanzong (685 AD – 762 AD). Under his rule, the empire flourished, and his reign is often referred to as the ‘Golden Age of Kaiyuan’, representing the golden age of the Tang Dynasty.
