Highlights of Yue Fei Temple
Jingzhong Archway
The Jingzhong Archway, also known as the Lingxing Gate, serves as the main entrance to Yue Fei Temple. Constructed in the seventh year of the Ming Zhengde era (1521), it is a magnificent wooden archway with intricate carving and soaring eaves resembling a flock of geese in flight. The central portion of the archway bears the inscription “宋岳忠武王庙 (Temple of Song Yue Zhongwu Wang)” granted by Emperor Xiaozong Zhu Youtang, while the eight-character walls on both sides bear the characters “忠 (Loyalty)” and “孝 (Filial Piety)” in relief.
Shrine of Yue Fei
The Main Hall, built in the first year of the Ming Jingtai era, serves as the core structure of Yue Fei Temple. Adjacent to the hall are the shrines of Yue Fei’s generals and followers, including Zhou Tong, Han Shizhong, Zong Ze, and He Zhu. Behind the Main Hall, there are additional buildings such as the Sleeping Hall, Yue Yun Shrine, Shrine of the Four Sons, Shrine of Yue Ke, Filial Daughter Shrine, and Shrine of the Three Generations. The courtyard of the Sleeping Hall features modern calligraphy and couplets, as well as stone carvings of “The Memorial on Suppressing the Rebellion.”
Yue Fei Memorial Hall
The Yue Fei Memorial Hall, located in the eastern courtyard, covers an area of 11,800 square meters and consists of a basement level and two above-ground levels. The exhibition hall showcases Yue Fei’s life story, military thoughts, and leadership philosophy, as well as his handwriting, biographies, and other related cultural relics and artworks. Utilizing modern technology, the memorial hall is the largest exhibition hall dedicated to Yue Fei culture in China.
