Guizhou Ethnic and Folk Customs Museum – TIcket, Opening Hours, Location, and Highlights
The Guizhou Ethnic and folk Customs Museum (贵州民族民俗博物馆) is an elegant replica of ancient architecture, painted in white, serving as a venue to showcase the rich and diverse ethnic and folk culture with a long history in the province. Nestled beside the picturesque Baiyun Park, it is closely located to other attractions such as the Chinese Kite Art Museum and the Chen Baiqiu Original Wood Art Gallery.
A significant portion of the exhibits is generously provided by Mr. Zeng Xianyang, a renowned collector in Guizhou, showcasing traditional clothing, as well as production and daily life items from the ancient cultures of Guizhou’s ethnic minorities. The main building of the museum is dedicated to cultural and artisanal displays, while the secondary building and courtyard host local businesses offering tourist products with distinctive Guizhou characteristics. This collective setup transforms the entire museum area into a microcosm encapsulating the essence of Guizhou culture.

Highlights of Guizhou Ethnic and Folk Customs Museum
First Floor: A Tapestry of Ethnic Attire and Stories
The first floor of the Guizhou Ethnic and Folk Customs Museum is a captivating showcase of ethnic clothing, primarily featuring the Miao, Buyi, and Dong ethnic groups, each piece intricately woven with captivating stories. Bathed in the glow of projector lights, the exquisite ethnic costumes radiate a strong cultural aura against a black-and-white backdrop, highlighting their beauty and uniqueness. Particularly noteworthy are the masterpieces of Miao embroidery, such as the Shidong-style “broken thread embroidery” and the Moon Mountain batik “Guzang clothes,” both of which have been exhibited in UNESCO and Chinese National Museum events.
Second Floor: Artistry in Silver and Daily Life Artifacts
The second floor focuses on the collection of Miao silver ornaments from Guizhou’s Qiandongnan region, alongside tools used in the daily lives, labor, and hunting of various ethnic groups. Visitors encounter beautifully crafted necklaces, slightly intimidating yet artistically detailed earrings, rain-resistant horse-tail sets, palm leaf-woven raincoats, bamboo-woven hats, iron sand guns for hunting, elephant-skin battle armor, and bamboo-woven “lunch boxes.” Each item showcases exquisite craftsmanship, embodying the wisdom and passion of the diverse ethnic communities.
Third Floor: Interactive Cultural Experience Zone
The intentional design of the third floor creates an interactive area resembling a stage. On a glass platform, visitors find weaving machines, winnowing fans, spinning wheels, and more. This space serves as both a platform for observing ethnic song and dance performances and an opportunity for visitors to engage in hands-on activities such as weaving and spinning, immersing themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the daily lives of the ethnic communities.
