Qinchuan Ancient Village – Ticket, Opening Hours, Location, and Highlights

Qinchuan Ancient Village (芹川古村) has a history of over 700 years, dating back to when the ancestral patriarch, Wan Ning Gong, migrated to Qinchuan. Since then, the village has maintained the tradition of close-knit communal living without interruption. A small river runs east to west, dividing the village into two halves. When viewed from the mountaintop, the entire village forms the shape of the Chinese character “王” (Wang).

As a typical example of a Hui-style ancient village, Qinchuan is characterized by its ancient dwellings and picturesque waterways. It boasts approximately 300 ancient houses, among which two date back to the Ming Dynasty, while the majority were constructed during the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China era. The architectural styles are diverse, featuring various shapes and forms, mostly consisting of two-story structures. Uncommon features such as waterside pavilions, towers, and fish ponds are also present, adding to the architectural richness.

One of the representative ancient houses in Qinchuan is located at 18 Xidong Road, Qinchuan Village, Suian County. Situated slightly south of west-facing, near the creek, this brick-and-wood structure follows a three-bay layout with a central hall and two side wings. Each wing contains eight rooms on the ground floor, with a kitchen and staircase leading to the second floor in the rear hall. The house has a depth of 15.3 meters and a width of 7.8 meters. Its intricate carvings, including window grilles and door frames, exhibit high artistic value.

Adjacent to this house is the Wang Shengli Ancient Residence, which features a garden with a fish pond covering an area of approximately 40 square meters. Inside the dilapidated enclosure, there’s a two-story waterside pavilion with benches, offering a picturesque spot for enjoying the scenery along the Qinchuan Creek. The water in the courtyard pond is sourced from the creek itself, cleverly managed with an upstream inlet and a downstream drainage system to maintain its clarity.
