重庆法国海军兵营旧址 - 门票、开放时间、位置和亮点
The French Navy Barracks Site (法国水师兵营旧址), located in the Nanan District of Chongqing, holds a rich history dating back to 1902. Commanded by Admiral Pottier of the French Far East Fleet and funded by Governor Doumer of Indochina with 100,000 francs, this site was constructed under the guidance of Captain Huest of the vessel “Ollier.” It boasts a striking medieval castle-style architecture.
Embracing the essence of century-old castle barracks and predominantly reflecting the architectural style of medieval European castles, the site spans an area of 673 square meters with a building space of 1617 square meters. It comprises a main building, auxiliary buildings, dormitories, inner courtyards, and arcades. Fusing Eastern and Western architectural elements, the barracks showcase orderly attic surrounds with preserved traditional Chinese carving art, complemented by elements like ancient Roman columns and Gothic arches.
Having stood for over a century, the French Navy Barracks served as a pivotal control and supply station along the Yangtze River. It undertook the responsibilities of patrolling the waterways and providing supplies. During the tumultuous times of 1940, the French Embassy in Chongqing was temporarily relocated here due to Japanese air raids in the urban area.
This historic edifice stands as a significant testament to Chongqing’s history, bearing witness to the city’s port-opening era. The barracks not only represent an architectural marvel but also serve as a reminder of the diverse cultural exchanges and historical significance that have shaped Chongqing’s narrative as a key hub in China’s past.
