Guiyang Lover Valley – Ticket, Opening Hours, Location, and Highlights
Guiyang Lover Valley (贵阳情人谷), located in the Wudang District of Guiyang City, is a picturesque and enchanting destination. The entrance to the valley leads to the downstream of a river, where the water surface is calm, resembling a mirror reflecting the lush willows and verdant mountains on both banks. As you journey upstream, the river gradually transforms from tranquility to vivacity, while the gorge deepens and narrows, creating a breathtaking scene as if gazing up at a slender line connecting the heavens.
Amidst the captivating canyon scenery, numerous caves are hidden within the dense forests and between the cliffs. These caves showcase a variety of whimsical stalactites and stalagmites, each displaying unique shapes and intriguing formations.
One of the most captivating features of Guiyang Lover Valley is the “Golden Turtle Supporting the Bridge” spectacle. Within the steepest part of the canyon, a massive rock resembling a turtle supports a bridge spanning the valley. Amidst the rushing waters, this colossal “turtle” sways and moves with the waves, creating a vivid and lifelike impression. The “Golden Turtle Supporting the Bridge” holds a beautiful legend, providing the origin of the valley’s name, “Lover Valley.”
Lengend about Lover Valley
Centuries ago, in the deep mountains on both sides of Lover Valley, there were two Miao villages named Dewuling and Mitangjing. A young man named Ashan from Dewuling was handsome and hardworking, while a girl named Ashui from Mitangjing was charming and affectionate. Ashan often came to Lover Valley to collect firewood, and Ashui frequently brought her flock of sheep to graze in the valley. Over time, they would greet each other across the river, exchanging pleasantries and warm wishes, gradually developing love for each other.
To be together across the river, Ashan decided to build a bridge. However, the river’s current was too strong, repeatedly washing away the trees he used for construction. In his desperation, a giant turtle appeared in the turbulent waters, lifting and supporting the bridge materials, helping Ashan cross the river to reunite with Ashui.
Upon learning about Ashan and Ashui’s love, Ashui’s parents strongly opposed their relationship due to Ashan’s impoverished background. They insisted on marrying Ashui to the simple-minded son of the village chief. In anguish, Ashan and Ashui decided to leave their homes and sought refuge deep within a cave in Lover Valley. There, free from societal constraints, they lived a secluded life filled with love and affection. This magical and touching story has been passed down through generations, contributing to the enduring allure of Guiyang Lover Valley.
