D2 Giant Panda Base-Wenshu Temple-Kuanzhai Alley
Chengdu boasts a superior geographical location, truly a land of plenty. Here, you can find adorable giant pandas, breathtaking natural scenery, captivating historical sites, and local specialties like spicy hotpot. Want to experience authentic Chengdu charm? Book our customized Chengdu city tour! You will visit the Jinsha Site Museum, observe giant pandas up close, savor local delicacies at Yulin Night Market, and stroll through Wenshu Monastery.
We will be heading to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Your main purpose for coming to Chengdu is to visit this place! We have specially arranged for you to see the pandas in the early morning, as they are most active during this time and feed between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM. You can watch the pandas climb trees, eat bamboo, sometimes apples, play with each other, or just lie down. The panda base houses over 240 adorable giant pandas across different areas, so you will have ample two hours to explore. However, not all pandas can be seen here; usually, on cooler days with temperatures below 26℃ (79℉), you will see more pandas. After lunch (at your own expense), we will visit Wenshu Monastery, the best-preserved temple in Chengdu with a history of 1,400 years. Upon entering Wenshu Monastery, you will admire six main halls arranged along the central axis under the guidance of your tour guide. The golden and magnificent Buddha statues within the courtyard exude grandeur. The temple also houses precious relics such as ancient Buddhist scriptures, embroidered images, paintings, and Buddhist ritual objects. Among these, the most noteworthy are the finger bone of Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism, and the skull relic of Xuanzang. These artifacts are usually only displayed on specific days, such as the Buddha's birthday. This architectural complex also embodies the aesthetic principles of classical Chinese gardens, allowing you to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and stroll through it, experiencing tranquility and peace. Next, we will explore Kuanzhai Alley, a street with a 300-year history lined with traditional Chinese architecture, used as restaurants, teahouses, and art studios. This is where the new meets the old, vividly showcasing Chengdu's cultural spirit and historical depth. Here, you can savor local specialties, watch performances of clay figurines and sugar paintings, enjoy folk arts such as Sichuan opera, shadow puppetry, and long-mouthed pot tea ceremony, and even pay extra for a unique ear cleaning service. At the end of your two-day tour in Chengdu, your guide and driver will take you to the airport or train station. If you want to extend your trip, please contact us at any time. Have a great trip!
