Wuhan Garden Expo Park - Entradas, horarios, ubicación y puntos destacados
Wuhan Garden Expo Park (武汉园博园), located in the Qiaokou District of Wuhan, Hubei Province, spans an impressive total area of 213.77 hectares, equivalent to the size of 299 standard football fields. Notably, 57 of these football-field-sized sections make up the core area, previously the site of the decommissioned Jinkou landfill. Wuhan Garden Expo Park undertook a remarkable transformation by combining advanced aerobic ecological restoration technology with enclosure management techniques. Over the course of three years, the park underwent ecological restoration, turning the former landfill into a lush green expanse. In recognition of its achievements, the project was awarded the “C40 City Climate Leadership Award” in 2015, a prestigious acknowledgment from Paris.
Following the successful hosting of the 10th Garden Expo (from September 25, 2015, to May 28, 2016), Wuhan Garden Expo Park secured its place as a permanent urban park. This decision ensures that residents of Wuhan have a local haven to appreciate the beauty of gardens from all over the country without leaving the city – a perfect destination for leisure and relaxation.
The architectural design of Wuhan Garden Expo Park follows the innovative “4+2” plan, comprising four main structures and two service areas to the east and west. The key buildings include the International Garden Art Center, the Yangtze River Civilization Museum, the Flying Garden, and the Creative Life Pavilion. Each structure showcases different aspects such as classic garden art, the cultural achievements of the Yangtze River Basin, distinctive garden art from the three towns of Wuhan, and the modern urban culture of Greater Wuhan.
The eastern service area, known as Hankou Li, recreates the architectural artistry of late Qing and early Republican-era Hankou City. Meanwhile, the western service area, Hanzhengdi, features Hubei-style residential architecture, extending into the Zhanggongdi Urban Park.
Among the main attractions are Jing Mountain and Chu Water. Jing Mountain includes 18 scenic spots such as Shanshan Wetland, Pan Flower Sea, Xun Fang Valley, and Wen Cha Ping. It is home to over 100 varieties of native Hubei plants, and from the mountain’s summit, visitors can enjoy the picturesque “High Mountains and Flowing Waters” landscape. Chu Water features 18 attractions, including Xianghe Island, Pufengdun, and Yunmeng Lake. Notably, red-crowned cranes are released into the sky here twice daily at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
In addition to these natural wonders, Wuhan Garden Expo Park hosts 117 exhibition gardens, categorized into areas like International Garden Exhibition, Master Garden Exhibition, Western China Garden Exhibition, Eastern China Garden Exhibition, Northwest China Garden Exhibition, and Theme Garden Exhibition. To explore the entire park thoroughly, visitors should plan for at least half a day to a full day’s worth of time.
