Jiaochangwei – A Favorite for Young Travelers

Jiaochangwei (较场尾) is a coastal village located in Shenzhen, China, nestled to the north alongside Dapeng Fortress and Pengcheng Village. The village has a history of around 300 years. In 1394, the Ming Dynasty established the Dapeng Fortress, where soldiers trained at the eastern drill ground. As the number of soldiers grew, a new drill ground was created to the west of the fortress, and the village located at the western edge of this ground became known as Jiaochangwei.

Covering an area of approximately 330,000 square meters, Jiaochangwei boasts a beautiful environment. The village faces Longqi Bay, with views across the sea toward Nanao Xinda and Qiniang Mountain. The coastline stretches for about 3,000 meters, featuring a sandy beach. At low tide, the beach can extend up to 50 meters wide, with sand of moderate quality and some small rocks. The shallow waters beyond the beach, with a tidal flat extending up to 1 kilometer, reveal the seabed at low tide, providing opportunities for beachcombing and collecting marine life.

After China’s reform and opening-up period, many of Jiaochangwei’s original residents gradually left, leaving many houses vacant. In recent years, as coastal tourism in Dapeng has surged, the local guesthouse industry has flourished. Jiaochangwei has gained popularity throughout Shenzhen and the Pearl River Delta as a tourist destination. Today, the village is home to over 370 guesthouses with more than 3,000 rooms, offering a variety of styles. This makes it a favorite for young travelers looking for a beachside escape, away from the city. Visitors often opt for DIY-style accommodations in private villas, where they can enjoy a personal, relaxed stay.

Despite the shallow waters around Longqi Bay, Jiaochangwei has attracted a vibrant community of young people passionate about water sports. Sailing, paddleboarding, and other activities have made the area a hub for seaside adventure.

Jiaochangwei is located in Dapeng New District, Longgang District, Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, China. To get there, you can take bus M457, M471, Pj6, or Dapeng Holiday Line 6 and get off at Jiaochangwei Stop (较场尾站).
